Since its humble beginnings in 1945, Goodwill San Antonio has championed the fight against poverty and created opportunities for adults and youth through education, training, and employment.
In 2020 alone, this invaluable Texas nonprofit organization employed 1,500 people, many of whom had previously faced employment barriers, placed an additional 1,000 individuals in jobs, and supported more than 280 students enrolled in their vocational training programs.
So what motivated Goodwill San Antonio to use Train by Cell’s mobile technology for employee training? Jessica Greenway, Goodwill San Antonio’s Director of Training and Development, shared these insights:
Quick Access to Content
“We wanted an alternative to accessing content on platforms that required a login. With quick access to our mobile website, more of our employees can access learning content easier. This also means more time learning and less time resetting passwords.”
Benefits of Mobile
“Providing professional development training to our employees is very important and a key component of our mission. However, our employees come from diverse backgrounds and work at various locations within the communities we serve. Therefore, we needed a tool that would be easily accessible, no matter where our employees worked. Additionally, many of our employees have limited computer skills, but are knowledgeable in using a smartphone. This technology makes it easier for our employees to access learning content on a device they are comfortable with.”
“Our employees are excited about the mobile learning content. It gives them quick access to FAQs and job aids. It also enables them to refresh themselves on content learned in class.”
Using Text Message Communication
“We use text messaging to send out surveys, links to mobile learning websites, and provide information about upcoming training classes. We’ve seen huge increases in response rates versus other methods like email and paper-based flyers.”
Goodwill San Antonio segments their text messages to reach targeted groups of people like staff, students, volunteers and job seekers. By texting the keyword GWSA to 56512, people can self-enroll to receive text alerts about job opportunities, skills workshops, and links to helpful information.
Admin User Experience
“The platform is easy to use. It didn’t take me too long to get up to speed.”
